Diabetes is increasing in the United States and the rest of the world in an alarming rate. In 1980, just under 6 million Americans were diagnosed with Diabetes. Since then it has tripled to 18 million Americans in 2008, which is almost 7 % of the U. S. population. What is more disturbing is the fact that children are becoming Diabetics at an early age when Diabetes was thought to be an adult disease. What has gone wrong? There are so many new Diabetic medications out in the market, but they don’t seem to have made an impact on curing Diabetes.
Last month we learned that the genes in your cells can easily change and rearrange themselves by your life style changes. In addition, Human Genome Project was completed in 2003 mapping out exactly where 26,000 genes are located in your chromosomes. This monumental task took 13 years to complete with thousands of scientists from 18 different countries involved. We finally know completely how we are made. For instance, the type 1 Diabetic gene is located in chromosome 10 (there are 23 chromosomes in each cell) and type 2 Diabetic gene is located in chromosome 17.
There are 2 types of Diabetes. Type 1 is when your body doesn’t produce insulin from your pancreas. This is juvenile onset Diabetes and people are born with this condition. This is what we call Autoimmune disease because your immune cells (called T cells) are attacking and destroying your own pancreatic cells that produce insulin. As you are aware, insulin carries sugar to your cells for energy production. This type of Diabetes is not common and affects only about 10 % of all Diabetics.
Type 2 Diabetes affects about 90% of all the Diabetics and this can be absolutely cured by changing your lifestyle. This in turn will change your Diabetic genes in your cells. I make this bold statement because I have seen many of my seminar attendees cure themselves from Diabetes. In this type of Diabetes, the insulin carries your sugar to your cell, but your cell does not open the gate for the sugar to enter the cell. There is a door bell called an insulin receptor on the outside of a cell which becomes covered by protein called Resistin.
I had a meeting at one of my favorite hotels in downtown L.A. the other day. I was trying to get to a restaurant at the top of the hotel and found out that the restaurant was under construction. They covered up the elevator button with a paper that said “Restaurant under construction”. This paper is exactly what Resistin is. I wanted to enter the elevator and get to the restaurant, but it was covered up with the paper. Your sugar wanted to enter your cell, but the insulin receptor was covered up with Resistin that did not allow the gate to open. Now you have a big problem of having too much sugar in your blood and not enough in your cell for energy. Therefore, you crave more sugar and food and hence the weight gain.
What do you then to cure this problem? First of all, you need to realize that the genes in your cells respond to need. In other words, if your cells don’t need sugar because of lack of movement and exercise, the number of your energy factory called Mitochondria decreases. There are about 450 Mitochondria in each of your cells and lack of exercise will reduce this number drastically. Of course, if you start to exercise and increase the need for Mitochondria, the number of Mitochondria will increase accordingly. When the genes in your cell realize the need for more Mitochondria, your cell will remove Resistin from your cell wall to accept more sugar into your cell. Therefore, sedentary lifestyle and lack of regular exercise is the #1 culprit.
The other main causes are a high fat and sugar diet. Your fat and sugar are very sticky in your blood. They make the Red Blood Cells stick together and not able to transport Oxygen to the cells. When there is no Oxygen to burn the sugar, the genes in your cell command your cell to cover up the receptor again with Resistin. This causes the sugar to not enter the cell because there is no need for it. There are 6 other causes of Diabetes and when you come to one of my 9 Secrets of Health seminar, you will find out all about them.
