
This can really hurt. It can be against a bed-post, leg of a chair or desk, a door jam or any other sharp object.
First you need to ice this area. Get an ice bag wrapped around a towel and apply 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Repeat this throughout the first day.
Then immoblize the affected toe to one next to it using tape. Now rest your affected foot and elevate to the level of your heart to minimize swelling. If the pain is severe, take an anti-inflammatory medication such as Motrin or Tylenol.
If the pain and swelling do not subside after a few days, come into our office to check for possible fracture of the toe. Fractures need to be immobilized right away to avoid future problems.
